Artist Statement
I am an Italian artist and designer, now living and working in the UK having moved from Milan to Brighton in the late 90’s. My background in Milan’s fashion, art and night club world, have fused with Brighton’s free living, accepting ways and style and have led me to my current creations of increasingly bold and quirky collections. The wood I use is (FSC) Forest Stewardship Council, which guaranties the wood comes from a sustainable source. I make everything by hand without use of machinery or mass production techniques. Wood is hand cut using a small piercing saw blade then sanded with different grades of sand paper to archive a smooth finish before sealing. The images I use are antique or vintage that I graphically manipulate then decoupage onto wood. I love blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary techniques and design. I’m meticulous in my attention to detail at every stage and even if extremely laborious I enjoy using this traditional method of making wooden jewellery . If I had these pieces laser cut, I believe the character and soul would be lost |
